In and around Alcaucin there is plenty to entertain. In the summer the obvious options are the village swimming pool, the river in the park and a huge selection of near by beaches. The nearest of which is Torre Del Mar but as you head up the coast towards Nerja you have its famous beaches and past that there a number of smaller bays in the national park with their beach bars / restaurants known as cherringitos like Maro beach.
When the weather is a little cooler then the mountains come into their own for outdoor pursuits with some breath taking walks - the most obvious being the hike up Maroma which is an all dayer and can be a little trecharous but well worth the effort if you're suitably prepared but there are any number of walks for every level. En route to Canillas De Acituna you can find some caves (If you go look to the left of the large obvious cave down through the undergrowth for the real surprise). And once you start driving a little way then there are endless possibilities from gorge walks to ridge walks to river walks.
For a break you might want to visit Alhama De Granada with its spectaclure gorge, natural hot springs (sign posted on the the left as you come out of the town in the direction of Granada) and great tapas or visit Arabic baths at El Ventorro just outside on the way to Jatar beside the small lake famous for its bird spotting - www.elventorro.net
